The Role

Fidelity Digital Asset Management (FDAM) is seeking an experienced results-oriented individual to lead investment risk. Reporting to the Head of Operational Capabilities , the VP, Crypto Investment Risk will proactively measure, mitigate, and socialize investment risk across FDAM in line with the firm strategic vision and risk appetite.

VP, Crypto Investment Risk leads all investment risk functions for FDAM’s digital products and capabilities. This role will:

  • Provide risk information to FDAM leadership that effectively balances the time-sensitive, urgent needs of the group and longer-term, broader business consideration.

  • Monitor and manage risks associated with digital assets such as market risk, portfolio risk staking risk, blockchain risk, liquidity risk and others

  • Conduct risk modelling, risk monitoring and reporting, stress testing, scenario analysis, and counterparty and custody risk management.

  • Work closely with business leaders to assess the safety and soundness of the firm’s current market risk-taking, prioritize initiatives to strengthen investment risk management capabilities, and present investment risk management issues and concerns to senior management.

  • Play a leading role in investment risk related discussions with regulators

  • Develop and maintain investment risk frameworks and risk appetite statements (including market, credit, operational, counterparty credit, and liquidity risks) that are comprehensive and tailored to the crypto asset environment. Continuously assess and refine risk policies, procedures, controls, and regulatory expectations. Identifies potential vulnerabilities and develops strategies to mitigate risk

  • Critically review portfolio risk to ensure they are aligned with the firm’s risk appetite and reporting upon the firm’s market risk-taking activities to senior management

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Master’s degree required. Engineering or Science related degrees preferred

  • 10+ years of experience of risk management leadership experience. Additional experience within top-tier asset management firm preferred

  • 5+ Digital/Crypto industry risk experience in areas such as tokenization, staking, and digital fund launches.

  • In depth investment risk expertise and experience leading a team of investment risk professionals, making timely, sound judgements, and succinctly communicating with senior management

  • Understanding of blockchain transactions and the ability to conduct blockchain analysis with experience in trade execution, settlement, and reconciliation processes for crypto assets.

  • In-depth understanding of cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, and the underlying mechanics of various digital assets. Awareness of the unique risks associated with crypto assets including market volatility, regulatory uncertainty, staking risk and security concerns.

  • Strong proficiency in risk assessment, portfolio management, asset allocation, and traditional financial risk management techniques.

  • Experience preparing and presenting investment risk management issues to senior management

  • Intellectual agility and the ability to simplify and clearly communicate complex risk concepts

  • Expertise in digesting complex data and presenting findings in a clear manner that simplifies decision making for leadership

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance ‘big picture thinking’ with attention to small details

  • Superior analytical skills with ability to draw key insights and develop clear recommendations
