When you think Fidelity Investments, I’m sure the first several thoughts that come to mind aren’t security, but why wouldn’t they be? With over 58,000 associates and 9.9 trillion dollars in investments, we absolutely have a great amount to protect. I sat down with three members of our security organization, Steve, Julie and Sam, to get an understanding of why they chose Fidelity, where they began their journey and what they’re up to now. Here is what they had to say.

Fidelity Investments may seem like a popular and well-known company to those who live in the Boston area, where our headquarters is located, but often individuals know the company for either the commercials they see on television or the branch buildings they see around the country. So, when I asked all three, “Why Fidelity?”, each of them replied with the quick, “I really didn’t know about Fidelity at all.” It wasn’t until either a job posting, recruiter, or friend had approached each of them that they began to look into the company which they all couldn’t deny “had a great reputation and values” that aligned to their individual standards.

Each of the three began their Fidelity careers within Global Security Operations (GSO) as a Security Representative. Steve was just coming back from a yearlong deployment overseas serving in the US Army when he joined the company. Both Julie and Sam applied to a job posting after realizing how much the company had to offer. As a Security Representative you have very important day-to-day duties and are tasked with many roles including response to alarms, first responder services in emergency situations, assisting with the background process for newly hired associates, access control, customer service and professionalism, amongst many others. When going through the onboarding process, each associate is trained on skills such as security risk assessment, knowledge of security principles, security technologies and first responder certifications ensuring everyone is set up for success. Sam still works in this role after joining the company a little over a year ago and says, “I am making a positive impact on people every day.”

Once you begin your journey at Fidelity, you will soon find out individuals around you share different lengths of tenure along with different career trajectories. That’s the greatness behind our ‘Find Your Fidelity’ slogan. Each person has the opportunity to find their way, whether that be growing within the security organization or branching out to other businesses under the Fidelity umbrella. Across my time with Steve, Julie and Sam, all of them collectively agreed a role within security allows for you to network and make relationships with individuals from all different parts of the business, which helps when you are reaching a growth point. “In my role, I get to interact with many leaders and front-line staff every day making the relationships and partnerships I have made with those within the security organization and those within different business units the most enjoyable aspect of working at Fidelity.” So, where are they now? Steve has held 12 different roles across the security organization, now a Director of Security focused on centralized office locations. Julie too has held approximately 7 positions across the security organization bringing her to different Fidelity locations around the US and even allowing her to experience a short period of time in China. Julie now holds a position as Director of Security Operations focusing on the western regional offices. And Sam says he “plans to stay with Fidelity long term and is excited to continue a successful career with Fidelity.”

A career at Fidelity within the Global Security Operations (GSO) as a Security Representative will not only equip you with fundamental security skills, but also essential qualifications for a career path you choose to follow within a company that supports associate growth and mobility.
