Fidelity is committed to learning and development for its associates. Recently I caught up with Letica, a Squad Lead at Fidelity and a participant in an 8-week digital assets training program to learn more about the program itself and why she decided to participate. The program is called “SheFi” and is a crypto and Web3 educational initiative founded by Maggie Love in 2020, that has onboarded and empowered over 1,500 women and non-binary people to Web3 since its launch.

How did you hear about Fidelity’s partnership with the SheFi program?

  • After hearing about SheFi from a colleague, I was really drawn to their program. This was my opportunity to learn more about digital assets. I’m thankful to Fidelity for their commitment to providing diverse learning programs to all associates.

What was the process of signing up for the program?

  • Each participant had to go through an application process and write a brief statement on why the program would be valuable to them. A team reviewed applications and selected a group of digital asset curious people to participate.

How many people participated and what backgrounds did they come from?

  • More than 100 associates participated in the program. We had a wide range of experience levels from phone associates to VPs in technology. Some were looking to move into the digital assets space, and some were simply looking to further their understanding of their current role or personal finances. It was beautiful seeing such a variety of people with different backgrounds and future paths, but the same goal of wanting to learn more.

What was the structure of the program?

  • There were two cohorts for the program– one was for beginners, and the other was more intermediate. We had the option to do both courses. We had weekly lessons with Maggie Love from SheFi for 90-minutes and had a team chat dedicated to asking questions, sharing information, and building connections. Lastly, we had “office hours” at the end of each week to ask more questions in a smaller group.

During the “office hours” did you find yourself networking with the other participants?

  • Yes, actually! Funny enough, I met with someone who attended the same college as me. We hit it off immediately and I now consider her a mentor for me in both my professional and personal life.

What were your biggest key takeaways or learnings from the course?

  • My biggest key takeaway is that I still have so much to learn! This course provided a great foundation for me but also opened the door to even more questions.

What was your favorite part of the program?

  • I loved the ideation process. While taking the course, my mind couldn’t stop brainstorming on all of the ways we can use digital assets in the future. My goal is to be a CEO one day, so I love thinking about the “big picture”. Specifically in this scenario, I’m passionate about helping disadvantaged communities learn more and have access to FinTech tools. I think there is a real opportunity to do that with digital assets.

As we concluded our conversation, Letica commented on the complexity of the information being shared but also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to even be able to take a course like this at work. She pointed out that this is just one of the many examples of how Fidelity not only values developing associates’ skills but provides the tools, resources, and time to do so.
