By The Women’s Leadership Group at Fidelity
The Fidelity Investment’s Women’s Leadership Group is hosting a 2-day event September 15th and 16th celebrating women’s rights to vote – past, present and future! Unstoppable Women: Celebrating the Right to Vote is a virtual event where the Women’s Leadership Group is creating segments that help to honor, celebrate and acknowledge the journey of voting rights, with a focus on how women played a pivotal role in this movement.
Day 1 is all about voting rights and a look at the past; Day 2 brings us to today with the issues impacting us with a “View From the Hill” segment and a panel of Fidelity activists driving change in their communities, both in and outside of Fidelity.
The Women’s Leadership Group was inspired by the 100th year anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote with two morning events of celebration, community and activism.
The passage of the 19th Amendment was the culmination of 72 years of activism by both women and men across the US, and was a key milestone, but also a jump-start to other movements to drive equality that continues today.
Fidelity’s Employee Resource Group also knew they wanted to do something to commemorate this historic milestone, but knew it wasn’t enough to just have a history lesson. The movement for equality across gender, race, ethnicity, etc. is a continuous one and they wanted to use this as an opportunity to educate and inspire associates to take action – and doing even one small thing makes a difference.
Celebrating the 100th year anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote with a morning of celebration, community and activism. Massachusetts was the 8th state to ratify the 19th Amendment, and its passage was the culmination of 72 years of activism by both women and men across the US.
