What if there was a new career opportunity that your future colleagues would describe as “fun,” would challenge you to learn new skills, provide you with ample time to learn the systems and processes for you to be successful, and encourage you to build relationships with your future colleagues?
What if the most valued skills required for this role were that you enjoy working with people, are eager to learn, and have a passion for helping others?
In 2015, Natalie found that opportunity. She knew nothing about the financial services industry, but pursued a company that could give her career growth opportunities and took the leap from a project manager role in municipal government to Fidelity as a Participant Services Manager. She then quickly transitioned to a Managing Director role.
Shortly after she moved to Fidelity, Natalie knew she made the right choice. As she reflects on this transition, Natalie explains how making the change was a sound investment in her career.
“In addition to learning my role, I also had to obtain a variety of FINRA licenses. I had a steep learning curve; however, my willingness to learn was met tenfold by Fidelity’s resources and the support of leadership and colleagues. I had access to robust training programs, resources and study time during my workday.”
Natalie shares that what stands out to her most at Fidelity is how the people she works with every day bring the most meaning. “In my role I always have great people to lean on. It doesn’t matter how tenured you are, it takes a village and I have the support.” What else stands out to her? “Fidelity is so intentional and thoughtful with their employees: the benefits, the structure, and the opportunities they create. Especially over the last 19 months, their approach to work from home and support has been so appreciated.”
What keeps Natalie so excited about Fidelity is her passion for her role. As a Managing Director, she builds relationships with small and medium businesses, helping them manage their workplace investing employee benefits programs. “No two days are the same, and that is what I love most! My clients trust me, and I feel like an extension of their team as I am working with them to help their employees plan for retirement.”
A piece of advice Natalie wants to share with individuals interested in a career here is to take time to explore all that Fidelity can offer you to achieve your own goals. “Learn as much as you can about the role and Fidelity. When I first joined, I didn’t even know about the Managing Director role. I joined the Women’s Leadership Group mentoring program and with the help of my mentor, I embarked on a journey of what I like to call ‘discovery networking.’ Through my conversations I learned about the career journeys of others which helped me understand what roles could fit my background and work experience. This led me to the Managing Director role that I enjoy so much today.”
