Learning Days are the gift of time to build skills today to support our technologists career tomorrow.

Each week, most of our technologists at Fidelity are provided with dedicated time to focus on building their skills and knowledge in the way that works best for them – eight hours every week, just to learn! Sometimes it’s a full day and other times, the hours are distributed throughout the week. While each experience is associate-driven, Fidelity provides the learning through workshops, e-learning courses, career coaching sessions, shadowing opportunities, mentoring in meetings, or something else that fits employees needs. There are even opportunities to apply the skills acquired during each Learning Day, taking the learning one step further.

@Carlos Torres, Director, DevOps Management and Production Support in Fidelity Digital Assets recently facilitated a Learning Day session in collaboration with @David Hill, Blockchain Technical Lead in Fidelity Center for Applied Technology and @Brenton Carr, Director, Systems Services and Support in Enterprise Infrastructure and the newly formed FID Year Up Alumni affinity group.* The session “NFT’s (Non-Fungible Tokens): About, Creation and Ownership” was attended by over 40 thirsty technologists, eager to learn more. An NFT is a one-of-a-kind digital asset that is tied to a specific blockchain that provides digital ownership. In addition to defining an NFT, the facilitators also provided tips for how technologists get into this space and even demonstrated how to mint a NFT in real time. This session was recorded and added to a library of internal learning opportunities.

The weekly Learning Day has been very well received among technologists. There’s a great appreciation for encouraging employees to own their development as they focus on their goals, create learning plans and map out future Learning Days.
