Jasmine, a Scrum Master for Fidelity Digital Assets, joined Fidelity right after she graduated from the University of New Hampshire. She had previously interned as a Systems Analyst and then was hired into Leap, Fidelity’s technology training program designed specifically for recent tech graduates. After she completed the 17-week training program, she began on her first project supporting Fidelity Digital Assets. Curious what it’s like to work in Fidelity Digital Assets? We were, and Jasmine agreed to share her story.
Q: Tell us about your team – what do you love most about working with them?
Jasmine: I work on two teams: Fidelity Digital Assets Client and Fidelity Digital Assets Wallet Engineering. Both of my teams are hardworking, fun, and care about each other. What I love most about working with my teammates is that even through the pandemic, we can still find a way to have fun and be there for each other. If someone needs coverage, another teammate is always there to step up and help them out. My team members are especially understanding about things that come up outside of work, and they are all really family driven.
Q: How does your job role/team impact Fidelity?
Jasmine: One of my teams developed an internal application for Fidelity Digital Assets that helps to onboard new clients within our product. My other team works directly with managing the Bitcoin inflows to our custody platform. Both of these are super important, because the product would not exist without either feature. It is really fulfilling to know how much of an impact my work has on the success of Fidelity Digital Assets.
Q: Diversity and inclusion continue to be important part of Fidelity. In what ways do you find you’re supported in this area?
Jasmine: We are provided with lots of educational materials and resources on things like starting conversations about race, inclusive language, and more. Fidelity is very focused on this and our leaders and associates actively engage in and support the firm-wide efforts. For example, many Fidelity Digital Asset associates participate in Employee Resource Groups (ERG’s). In addition, a significant portion of our all-hands meeting is to feature and promote our involvement.
Q: What attracted you to working at Fidelity?
Jasmine: I was attracted to work at Fidelity because of the huge range of business units and projects that you can potentially work in. The company really encourages movement and trying new things, while still staying within the company. I was attracted to Fidelity Digital Assets specifically because it is just like working for a startup, but with the support of a larger company like Fidelity. Fidelity is always ahead of the curve and pursuing new innovations, which is how Fidelity Digital Assets came to be. It’s great to work for a forward-thinking company where there is always something new to work on!
Q: What has life been like for you during the pandemic, and how has Fidelity supported you?
Jasmine: Life has definitely changed due to the pandemic, but I have felt fully supported by Fidelity the whole time. While I work remote every day, all in-person meetings have changed to video calls. Fidelity has directly supported us by sending out COVID support resources and giving us five extra days in both 2020 and 2021 that can be used for anything pandemic related. It makes me feel good to know that if I do contract the virus, or need to support someone who does, I have the support from Fidelity to do so. Fidelity also came out with a flexible option for our Paid Time Off, so that we could carry more unused hours into the next few years.
Q: What’s something about working at Fidelity that surprised you?
Jasmine: I was pleasantly surprised at the focus Fidelity puts on your personal health. Staying active is a huge part of my life, and there are numerous benefits Fidelity provides that I take advantage of. One of these benefits provides me with some money towards my gym memberships every month. A huge reason why I miss going into the office is the food! At some of the Fidelity locations, eating healthy is cheaper than the unhealthy options in the cafeteria. This makes it an easy choice to eat healthier, and I look forward to getting breakfast and lunch in the office.
Q: Describe skills or traits that would make someone a good fit for working in FDAS?
Jasmine: Someone with a lot of passion and drive, as well as interest in the digital asset space would be a good fit. We are still working on so many new features, improving on old features, and our product has so much room to grow.
Q: A friend wants to know what it’s like to work at Fidelity. What would you say? Jasmine: I always describe Fidelity as a “solid” place to work. The benefits are great, there are many options of things to do, and I always feel supported and heard. They encourage personal growth, even if it means you are moving to different business groups or teams. There are also many different locations to consider working out of!
In the few years Jasmine has been at Fidelity, she is the perfect example of someone who takes advantage of the opportunities for growth and development. Her Scrum Master and Product Owner certifications, for example, were obtained through Fidelity. In addition, as she has a strong desire to grow her leadership skills, she didn’t hesitate to participate in a 6-week long program this past summer that provided women with the tools and coaching to become confident, successful leaders.
