“It’s happiness in my work, in my job, and in the people, I work with” – Carlos Torres

Career Vitality is an associate driven initiative which was introduced years back in order to help those within Fidelity broaden their knowledge, gain new experiences and pursue new opportunities within the organization. Learning Days are one way Fidelity technologists are able to experience career vitality and progress their skills professionally and technologically. After recognizing associates typically spend their Learning Days focused on upskilling in technologies, @Carlos Torres, Director of Site Reliability Engineering, felt it was critical to introduce a different type of offering dedicated to building one’s professional network.

In collaboration with @Rick Adamson, Director, Regional Leadership Office in Enterprise Human Resources along with co-partners from the FID Year Up Alumni affinity group*, a new Learning Day club was established with the intent to bring resources and knowledge together in a single space. Some of the topics include how to get involved and make networking a natural interaction, knowledge sharing from the Enterprise Talent Marketing team on enhancing an associates LinkedIn presence and presenting Fidelity myCareer Center tools available to associates to inspire career mobility. The club partners attend monthly strategy meetings to discuss new learning topics ensuring the content shared is relevant, relatable, and comes from reliable and trustworthy sources.

“I like to inspire others to identify their own career vitality, their own happiness, whether it’s through engagements, sharing knowledge, or finding a passion for building a professional network” says Carlos.

The latest session attracted over 50 Fidelity technologists with an understanding that building a professional network of people and resources leads to career vitality.

Professional networking is extremely important as who you know and what you know sets you apart from the pack. Whether they are seeking personal growth or happiness, these quarterly Learning Day offerings are bringing technologists together to prepare them for the present and what’s next.
