During Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May, we caught up with Abby, one of our associates who will be soon celebrating her 6-year anniversary at Fidelity.  Abby works in Digital Workplace and is a Co-Chair of the Communications & Marketing Chapter within AIM, the Asian Inclusivity and Multiculturalism (AIM) employee resource group.

Abby shares what this month means to her and how Fidelity has supported her as an AAPI associate.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself and your career path at Fidelity.

Abby: Before working for the Service Design & Delivery Team in Digital Workplace, I was a part of the Enterprise Talent Development & Learning group as a Director of Talent Development Solutions. I was responsible for leadership development and management classes that serve the entire Enterprise. I was in that role for about 5 years and made a transition back in August of 2021. I felt it was time for me to figure out my next role and I had a few conversations with my previous manager. I was able to tap into the resources that Fidelity offers from career coaching, cohort programs like LIFT* and initiatives like CrossFid**, which helped me move to Digital Workplace. In my current role, I contribute to the digital experience to ensure associates have the proper tools, training and support to do their best work.

Q: How did you get involved with Fidelity’s Asian employee resource group, AIM (Asian Inclusivity & Multiculturalism)?

Abby: I started out attending events from time to time. It wasn’t until right before the pandemic hit that the AIM group was redefining their pillars and the structure. I was interested in being part of the evolution of the group and I got involved with the communication and marketing chapter. I was recently promoted to the co-chair of the Communications and Marketing Chapter in AIM.

Q: What does Asian American & Pacific American Heritage Month mean to you?

Abby: I like the ability to celebrate my culture and how it’s helped me evolve. There’s comradery, networking, and encouragement to be who you are. You can bring the different experiences you’ve had to work. I’ve recognized that it’s made me who I am today, and I continue to grow because of it.

Q: What are ways in which Fidelity encourages reflection and celebration?

Abby: There’s a bunch of activities during Asian American & Pacific American Heritage month. We’re also partnering more with other ERGs like Pride and Aspire. Fidelity allows you to celebrate and recognize the many cultures that make up the AAPI community.
